Is Costa Rica a safe country to travel to ?
As far as safety and security, we do recommend you to use your common sense. While Costa Rica is a very safe country compared to other Latin-American countries, there is theft, and crime is also present. Therefore, try avoiding situations like leaving your cameras and purses unwatched on the beach, or do not leave your suitcases unwatched somewhere, nor walk around with an excess of jewelry in crowded spaces. The tourist destinations are quiet safe, well guarded by police and private security, but is also a magnet for minor crime, burglary and theft, and so just by following some common sense rules you will be OK. Outside the tourists areas in the outskirts of the major cities around San Jose or even some parts of San Jose downtown there are of course very dangerous areas which you should avoid and surely will avoid. Also, try and use official services such as taxi companies and currency exchange.
