Costa Rica humpback whales
Whale watching has become a very popular ecotourism activity in Costa Rica. During most of the year, the large humpback whales can be see along the Pacific Ocean coast, from north to south. One of the best areas to see whales is Bahia de Coronado, in front of Uvita de Osa, Drake Bay, Golfo Dulce, the entire Osa Peninsula and Dominical. Humpback whales from the cold coasts of north America come south during wintertime and the ones from the South American and Chile coast come north during their time too. The humpback are the most common whales seen, however, other species are also found, such as Pilot Whale, Falsa Orcas, Orcas and many species of dolphins. When lucky, one can see up to 20 individuals in a larger group, and specimens jumping, tail flagging and playing around.
